(quarantine) F.A.E . History can judge .. We cannot

Do you know what is F.A.E ?? (hint ..Arguably, it is in C). 

Another hint .. Why the middle part ? (We say Why .. but mean "how come") .

Most answers will be:  because it is better .? what does that mean.

Does better means: what we like or love? 

Is that individual ? If it is, than it cannot be discussed. 

If not then there is a measure that we might not know .. and we must know !!!!

If the answer is : good because I like it and don't care  , then stop reading. everybody is entitled to his opinion. but try to look down who don't share your opinion (and attitude).

The other answer: Everybody (often means: most people) likes it .. so it is good .. 

Well .. that's better answer, correct as well .. but still incomplete !!!

If we say :Classical music is the best music. can we tell why ? 

Arguably: Classical is European .. Europe -by force- took over, and imposed its culture, on the rest of the world 400 years ago.. including classical music .. as result the general culture in the world is European. We were forced to listen , and as consequence, like classical music.

Music is part of human brain activities .. it is always there .. All what's needed is to to put this activity in "a" direction, and there it goes. and the direction was forced by Europe.. 

Not bad .. ehhh. seems very logical. doesn't it ? It is actually right. but still not complete. 

It doesn't explain why EUROPEANS picked and choose pieces and disregard others..  

It doesn't explain F.A.E .. and anybody who knows something about violin, should agree more or less with the following.

A piece of 3 movements . 3 different composer (schumann, brahms and dietrich).

All 3 parts are European .. same goes for composers  .. Yet almost nobody plays 1st and 3rd movements. 

The Brahms part (AKA scherzo) made it through time and generations.. the other 2 didn't

Mozart and Hayden made it through time and generations. Salieri didn't.

JS Bach made it through history and generation, Buxtehude didn't .. (Telemann .. well .. partially).

Same goes on Beethoven , Schubert , Prokofiev .. and others.  Don't we like to question it ? 

Shouldn't this make us wonder: how come that the majority of musician who spent their life playing and researching music decided to play more Bach than Telemann and more Shostakovitch then Khrinikov? 

Actually , they didn't decide.. they experimented with all of them. spent their life looking and trying all scores. generation after generation ... all the time .. found that they love practicing and playing  pieces more than others.. people listened to those pieces more then others ,over and over. Other pieces were ignored and those filtered out of the repertoire slowly.

Compare the number of all people who listed to Elvis, Madonna and Brittney combined.. Bach listeners out number them by far considering the last 300 years or so.. He would be the richest man in the history of mankind considering his rights to played and recorded pieces carrying his name. 

We all have ears .. we all can hear .. we all have opinions .. 

Experts listen .. and have knowledge ..We should give more weight to what they think is right.

Statistics make us better judges.. We should count the likes and dislikes everywhere and through history , not only here and now.  It a good way to form a better opinion and judgment.

Beethoven last quartet . first performance .. disaster .. Stravinsky spring ritual  .. same .. yet both pieces are among the most played pieces nowadays. Expert musicians , who played those pieces for the first time , knew the value, public followed later on.

Critics didn't get the point when Joachim Played Adagio of Bach for solo violin shortly after the scores were found by Mendelssohn.. Joachim knew better .. he was one of those who tried it all.

In short .. if we want to know what's better music.. let's ask expert Musicians, who spent their lives trying to KNOW .. let's keep our opinions to ourselves or at least be modest about it. 

That helps being less arrogant when to comes to opinion regarding compositions ? 

It is what it is . Like it or not.
